Jon Hopkins has been a consistent force in the Electronic scene for years, spanning multiple genres and crossing realms into different musical territories with other artists, such as King Creosote, I consider him a bit of a Renaissance man. 'Immunity' sees a full realization of his musical aspirations in my opinion. Microhouse/IDM/Tech House....whatever this album incorporates and whatever you call it, it's a *deep* and lush album. Massive beats, heart-pounding bass and gritty melodies, this album takes you on a wild ride, capturing all the human emotional elements of a late night out on the town. Break periods of ambient and piano work, drones and muffled voices set the stage and calm the pace, which is most welcomed. 'Abandon Windows' is probably one the my favorite songs of the entire year, perfectly illustrating a calming and haunting point in a night filled with chaos. There is a lot more I can say about this album, as all the songs just feel and sound amazing and get my heart pumping, and feel that they could rip open your speakers at any point, but I can't really do a full review right now. My only critiques is that a few of the songs are a bit too long, and certain points too loud hectic when the music is at it's pull pace and intensity. Yet all these things pale in comparison to Jon Hopkins ability to make an album that feels so personal. One of my favorite electronic releases of the year and a solid 4.25 for me right now that could jump higher. It's a grower for sure, but listening to this over and over, I find new things I love about it each time.
